The rear sway bar can only do its job if its ends are tied firmly to the wheels, and the links make that connection. A loose or flexible link lets the body lean before the bar starts to push back, which is why worn links show up as a knock over bumps or a delayed feel at turn-in. It keeps a set length matched to the application, so there is nothing to measure or set during the install.
