Product Details

This page covers the Whiteline Front Lower Ball Joint for the 1981-1986 Mercury Cougar Base. You receive 1 ball joint. The listing names the Base trim. The part number is W53557. Chassis code: Fox. Whiteline's note for this fit: Standard Replacement. Position: front.

The lower ball joint is the pivot between the control arm and the steering knuckle, and the wheel turns and moves up and down on it. When it wears, it develops play that shows up as clunks, wandering steering, and uneven tire wear. A new joint takes up that slack.

Whiteline rates the install as difficult and lists about 1 hour. An alignment is required after installation. To go with it on the Cougar, see 16mm Adjustable Front Camber Bolts, Front Sway Bar Link Kit, and Ball Joint Boot Kit.

Features

  • Durable build: Made from wear-resistant materials built for heavy loads and constant movement.
  • Play removed: Removes the play and looseness that worn factory joints develop.
  • Geometry: Keeps alignment and geometry closer to where they should be.
  • Serviceable: A grease fitting is included, so the part can be re-greased as it ages.
  • Replacement joint: A replacement ball joint built to bring back accurate steering and free suspension movement.
