Product Details
Looking for a front ball joint for your 1980-1988 Mercury Cougar XR-7? The Whiteline Front Lower Ball Joint is made for it. The listing names the XR-7 trim. It goes on the front of the vehicle. Chassis code: Fox. Whiteline part number: W53557. Whiteline's note for this fit: Standard Replacement. Included: 1 ball joint.
The lower ball joint is the pivot between the control arm and the steering knuckle, and the wheel turns and moves up and down on it. When it wears, it develops play that shows up as clunks, wandering steering, and uneven tire wear. A new joint takes up that slack.
Installation is rated difficult, with about 1 hour of work listed. Get the car aligned once it is back on the ground. To go with it on the Cougar, see 16mm Adjustable Front Camber Bolts, Front Sway Bar Link Kit, and Ball Joint Boot Kit.
