Product Details

Fitted to the 1979-1986 Mercury Grand Marquis Base, Colony Park (Panther): the Whiteline Front Lower Ball Joint. Application note: Standard Replacement. The listing names the Base and Colony Park trims. Placement: front. Part number W53557. Included: 1 ball joint.

The lower ball joint is the pivot between the control arm and the steering knuckle, and the wheel turns and moves up and down on it. When it wears, it develops play that shows up as clunks, wandering steering, and uneven tire wear. A new joint takes up that slack.

Installation is rated difficult, with about 1 hour of work listed. Plan on a wheel alignment afterward.
