Bilstein B4 shocks bring the 1974-1976 Mercedes-Benz 230 (W115) back to its factory ride. When the original dampers wear out a car starts to float over crests and patter over broken pavement, and this is the fix.
Inside is Bilstein's monotube design, with the gas and oil separated by a floating piston. That keeps damping consistent when the road turns rough and the unit gets hot, where a lesser damper would go soft.
