The Bilstein steering damper for the 2006-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 takes the wander and shimmy out of the steering. Older trucks develop a nervousness through the wheel over rough pavement, and this settles it.
Inside is Bilstein's monotube design, with the gas and oil separated by a floating piston. That keeps damping consistent when the road turns rough and the unit gets hot, where a lesser damper would go soft.
